Whatever level you’re operating at, it’s easy to be driven by meeting agendas or projects – by what’s urgent rather than important. Keep asking open questions to ensure that you’re getting under the surface to understand their priorities and what drives performance, or causes issues. Check and re-check that your understanding of what’s happening is up to date. Schedule in regular meetings with key stakeholders and ask open questions to make sure you know what’s on their mind. This is part of building a trusting and productive relationship as well as informative.
