What does successful business partnering look like to business leaders?

What do they need from it?

We have to find out – learn from them and work it out together.

One HRD knew she was getting results when a business leader said to her ‘I look forward to my meetings with my HRBP because I know we’ll be talking about the future.’

Another HRBP was delighted to get the feedback that they ‘obviously understand the business and speak the right language.’

Creating the shift to business partnering is actually a two-way street.

It might be driven by HR (or Finance, or IT), but once the right kind of conversations start happening the energy starts flowing in both directions.

It also needs to be led from the top.

It pays dividends to get business leaders on board in business partnering programs, and actively involve them. Creating an opportunity for business leaders to explain their business to participants turns into a rewarding discussion for everyone.

Business leaders value our Seven Enablers as much as the business partners. They value the clarity about what we mean by business partnering. They also appreciate the challenge that’s inherent in every Enabler.
