We must build HR’s strength for the future

I have a real sense that HR is at a crossroads. There are choices to be made. We must build HR’s strength for the future, or else … ? What’s your view on that?

Change is driven by the quality and level of the relationship between HR and the business – elevating that is how you drive HR’s credibility and influence and, therefore, impact.

That’s what I mean by choices. The truth is that many business leaders are content with the level of HR that they’re getting. Many don’t understand the strategic impact HR can have when it’s leveraged correctly.

So, HR may have the choice, whether to maintain the status quo – often under-resourced and frustrated anyway – or whether to build the business case for change in order to get everyone on board.

There are key steps that HR leaders can take to create that shift, and in our recent webinar (Next Generation HR – A turning point) we set out how to:

1. Become more business savvy and credible with business leaders
2. Shift relationships with business leaders – change HR’s narrative, and HR’s conversations
3. Advocate more effectively for the HR priorities that are critical success factors for business
4. Build your reputation and influence as partners in business success
5. Get your HR team lined up behind business priorities.
