Josh Bersin on how HR can shift behaviourally

Many thanks to Saba for this great webinar, and to Josh Bersin for answering my question – what is it behaviourally that HR can do to create the shift they need?

He made 3 excellent points:

1. HR have to become cross-trained – very few problems are solved in one domain; eg. learn about Comms as well as Reward, Employee Experience as well as L&D;

2. Be agile – don’t use the big bang or ‘waterfall’ method of rolling out interventions, use iterative approaches. He recommended the mindset of a Product Manager – develop a product that people want to buy and keep developing it;

3. Build a deep understanding of your organisation and what its true differentiator is. Do a rotation in your business – you’ll be more interesting as well as more capable.

He talked about Power Skills – organisations today are networks, and we need to build capabilities to work across them. For example, People Analytics give us great data, but we need to learn how to use data to help us to tell a story that people can act on.

This gets closer to our mission at enable-hr – how we handle those critical interactions inside the business. How do we relate the big picture to the immediate context of the line manager in front of us? Do you do this?
