It’s time. Let’s be proud of HR’s value

It’s been a continuing theme in the many years I’ve been working with HR leaders and their teams. It can be a fight.

Any long fight wears you down. Sometimes it feels like it’s a fight between the hard stuff (the financials) and the soft stuff (the people). HR people know that it’s the people who drive the financials.

It just isn’t fair that, when you’re sticking up for what’s right – whether it’s for one person or for all your employees, HR is seen as soft. You get patronised. ‘You don’t understand how business works’. Yes we do. We know that doing the right thing is good for business.

We haven’t been good at making a case for that. There’s good news on that front – people analytics gives us the ammunition, and strength in business partnering gives us the platform.

However, we need to get back to the impact that this long fight has had on the HR profession.

With Marion Hewitt I’ve been thinking deeply about imposter syndrome and the impact it has on our function.

It’s about the relationship we have with ourselves as HR leaders and HR professionals.

It’s also about the relationship we have with the business.

If this resonates with you, let’s explore your situation in a complimentary coaching session.
