Here we use the term ‘policies’ broadly, to include all aspects of how HR embeds its work into the organisation. A typical example would be the performance and reward cycle, e.g. where managers are resisting the policy of how they award ratings. It can seem illogical to stakeholders who don’t carry the responsibility for the fairness of this kind of policy right across the organisation. HR people do, and it requires persistent and sensitive explanation and influencing. It may also involve giving feedback, including when an issue has been raised by someone else. HR delivers through others, so this constant support and clarification to leaders and managers is how policies are embedded. Read more about giving feedback.
