This is a tough one if you’re in HR.

‘Value’ can mean different things to different stakeholders.

However – if you’re an HRBP you will have a clear set of stakeholders who will be happy to tell you.

How do they see it?

That’s the key question. In HR we have a history of looking through our own lens. We know what’s right.

BUT

  • The employees don’t report to us in HR
  • They’re not led or managed by HR
  • Any budget we need probably doesn’t come from HR

To determine what value is, HR has to look through a business lens. HR has to join the dots and build a business case.
