Do HR leaders have the profile that they need and deserve?

Sage - HRs temperature check

Thank you to Sage for this research – although it’s an uncomfortable read as you can see below. The report also shows that 57% of HR leaders ‘love working in HR’ – is that a high enough number?

Let’s face it, HR’s world has turned upside down. Covid was a rollercoaster, and pushed HR back into a reactive space. To be fair, what we should call that space for HR was ‘fantastically responsive, courageous, adaptable, resourceful and leading’.

However, it was hard – arduous and exhausting, and often thankless. This data shows that HR (and perceptions of HR) haven’t yet bounced back or pushed forward.

Our own research post-pandemic (message me for the report) showed that some HR leaders did manage to turn adversity into opportunity. But, by my estimate from keeping in touch with many HR leaders, less than half feel that HR have the profile that they need and deserve.

To back this up, the Sage survey 63% of C-suite leaders still see HR’s role as mainly administrative. Frustrating.

How is this for your HR function?

Much of our work with HR teams involves providing a pick-me-up – shaping the opportunities and inspiring and equipping them to grasp them.

There are, undoubtedly, massive opportunities for HR right now. Let’s take them.
