AI – do you feel like you’re in the ‘messy middle’?
Where AI is concerned, do you feel like you’re in the ‘messy middle’? There is a clear direction – AI isn’t going away – but you know major change is impending.
If you’re confused about how this is going to pan out, I highly recommend the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Report ‘Executive Perspectives – Unlocking Impact from GenAI and Agentic AI HR’ – Nov 2025.
The graphic illustrates just how much of the change rushing towards organisations will fall within the remit of HR. As always, nothing changes unless people change:
‘In order to capitalize on the value of AI we must address challenges head on. Most AI roadblocks stem from the “70% People, Org and Processes’
There’s a kind of T-shape to this change. The top of the T – everyone across the organisation is experimenting, learning and integrating AI into their work. HR needs to support and understand that.
The bottom of the T – a review of roles and ways of working in every function, and perhaps across functions as silos break down.
As the report says, this is proving hard to achieve because:
‘2 in 3 companies struggle to:
- Reimagine workflows
- Hire AI talent and upskill workforce
- Drive incentives
- Adapt culture
Root cause – ‘Most are still investing (time and money) on tech and not enough on the fundamentals.’
This brings us to the age-old challenge faced by HR – not enough resource.
If you’re in that position, and want to build a business case for the work that your organisation needs HR to do, get in touch.
